The Cumberland County Department of Public Health has an accreditation valid through 2017 from the North Carolina Local Health Department Accreditation Board. This episode of "Cumberland Cares" produced by Cumberland County in 2013, explains the importance of this achievement and also provides a glimpse into the services our Public Health Department provides.
North Carolina Medical Board: The Consumer Resources Page provides information on complaint processes and a variety of data on NC providers. You can also use the Physician Licenses (look up) feature to find information on a particular provider. This includes information on their education and honors, in addition to information on adverse actions taken by the board, felony convictions, and malpractice suits.
The Cape Fear Valley Health System is a private non-profit system governed by a Board of Trustees. The system serves a six county region that includes Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and Hope Mills. Hospital safety is a concern for many people. The following consumer resources can help you find more information on the quality of hospitals and medical facilities.
The Joint Commission, a non-profit organization aimed at evaluating and measuring the quality of health care facilities across the United States, offers a variety of accreditations and certifications for medical centers. Use their Quality Check tool to find out what seals of approval a particular facility has earned.
The Leapfrog Group, another non-profit organization aimed at evaluating healthcare across the United States, conducts annual surveys that provide insight into hospitals and their quality of services. About 25,000 hospitals are evaluated nationwide. Leapfrog Hospital Surveys are conducted semi-annually and are fast growing consumer health resource. The group also provides Hospital Safety Scores for some facilities.
